Writing to Heal Family Trauma
Not all inheritance is visible. Some of it lives in pauses, in patterns, in the stories we were told— and the ones we were not. This self-guided writing workshop invites you to explore your family history through reflective prompts and storytelling.
There are no promises that you will process the deep complexities of your family relationships or heal emotional wounds, but you will have the opportunity to write about family trauma, childhood experiences, and inherited patterns in a safe and supportive space. Together, we’ll move slowly through memory and meaning, using writing as a way to tend to old wounds.
Like all writing circles with Doula of Words, this workshop is a safe, generative, welcoming, and warm environment, which is open to all. You don't have to be a published writer or be working on something specific to find a home with us. All you need to join is a pen, some paper, and an open heart. <3
This workshop is meant to be taken at your own pace. By downloading the workshop materials, you will have access to ten poems, multiple resources, and dozens of original, specially curated prompts.
After signing up, you’ll receive:
A packet of poems written, performed, and inspired by the word family
Thoughtful writing prompts and creative exercises to go along with each poem
Access to our private, supportive, optional space for feedback sharing
A flexible, self-paced structure you can return to anytime <3
Loads of resources and have access to a beautiful community of other writers who are exploring family just like you.
