Writing your story is one thing… but sharing it with the world? Now that takes guts.

How do I know? Because I’ve done it.

And now I want to help walk you through it.

… and thus the Doula of Words was born! (See what I did there?)

It’s just me… standing casually next to a stack of every book I have ever written…

It’s just me… standing casually next to a stack of every book I have ever written…

My first book (Salt and Sour) took me over three years to write… but most of that time was just me, building up the bravery to actually share it with the world. I didn’t magically become brave one day. In fact, the day before my book was released was one of the scariest days of my whole life! There were so many unknowns and I had so many questions….

Since that miraculous, overwhelming, thrilling experience, I’ve had a lot of time to gather some wild expertise to help you when your book baby enters the world. I am here to offer you support and accountability throughout the entire process, from your first idea to your last word.

The name “Doula of Words” came to me in a reiki session, a few days before my first book was released. I was feeling a lot of stress and although I had a lot of great people on my book team, I also felt lost and like I had to face everything on my own. There was also a feeling of readiness I couldn’t quite describe. It felt a little bit like what my mom told me becoming a mother was like.

A doula helps a new mother through the process of birth. And that’s what I’m here to help you do! I am here to offer support and accountability throughout the entire book-making process, from the labour to the birth, and beyond.

Since the day my first book came out, I’ve been on a really wild and dynamic journey. In late 2022, I finally took the plunge and left my full-time job as a chef to pursue writing full-time. Since then I’ve been publishing a lot of my work in literary journals and online, and I’ve been working on my second memoir which is about reproductive rights in Canada. I also released a book series called Dear Future, with the first edition being an anthology titled: Dear Future Lover.

I’ve been writing a lot of poetry lately which you can find here. I write about addiction a lot, and about love. And about my dad. And sometimes about nature.

In my daily life, I spend a lot of my time writing. I am one of those annoying early-morning people who wakes up at 5:30 am and writes for several hours before first light. I do this four days a week and take long breaks to walk my dog, be outside, do yoga, and cook. I am passionate about dogs, psychology, addiction & recovery, Mary Oliver, incense, tea, podcasts, amateur gardening, traveling, crystals & other witchy stuff, reading, and meditation.

I love writing workshops and try to attend as many as I can. I also love facilitating workshops, public speaking, and talking all things mental health.

I’m sensitive and will use this superpower when we meet. I’ll probably cry when I read your book and hug you for too long.

I share a lot of my personal poetry on Instagram… hope to see you there! @doulaofwords
